Back Pain

Back pain is one of the commonest complaints world-wide. For most people back pain is due to mechanical ‘wear and tear’ on the spine. It is often preventable and most often will resolve within few weeks but it can be serious and should be checked by your doctor, especially if the symptoms are severe and include pain in the legs.

Look after your back and it will look after you – learning about back-care is worthwhile!

What causes back pain?
The spine consists of bones called vertebrae with padding between them called “discs”. The spinal cord (the major nerve that supplies the entire body) runs through the centre. Damage to any part of the spine or the supporting muscles results in back pain.

Muscle Strain
This is the commonest cause of back pain. Tearing and spasm in the back muscles can lead to enormous pain in the back.

Disc
Rupture, damage or “slipping” of the disc may lead to back pain. The disc may cause compression on the spinal cord or nerves.

Spinal Stenosis
The central canal in which the spinal cord runs becomes narrowed due to arthritis or other conditions causing back pains.

Arthritis
Abnormal degeneration of the joints can lead to back pain, particularly in the lower back.

Osteoporosis
Thinning and weakening of the bones due to osteoporosis may cause the bones in the spine to collapse resulting in back pain.

Other
Less commonly, conditions such as cancer, TB, abcess, or blood vessel abnormalities.
Serious signs with back pain

Most people will experience an episode of the back pain from time to time.

Men's health

Men have specific health needs. Due to male hormones, lifestyle choices and health risks specific to men they need medical care and screening which is different to women.
Prostate and testicular cancer, heart disease and high blood pressure are common concerns for men. The earlier the illness is detected, the better are the chances of controlling or treating the condition.
Check-up with your doctor

You don’t need to visit your doctor when you are ill. Your doctor can help you stay healthy in many ways. He or she can;

·         Discuss family history and your risk of diseases like heart disease, high cholesterol, certain types of cancer and other inherited disorders

·         Discuss lifestyle factors that may be putting you at risk of diseases in later years of life ( exercise, diet, alcohol intake, smoking, recreational drug use)

·         Help you plan ways optimize your health through positive lifestyle changes

·         Plan screening tests based on your lifestyle and inherited risk factors.
Screening for men
“Screening” is checking whether you are at risk of or already have a disease. It should be started from young age, and your screening needs will change as you age and lifestyle changes.
How often do I need screening?
Most men need to be screened every three years until the age of 65. Thereafter screening is recommended yearly. You may have a specific risk of disease that requires earlier or more frequent screening than is recommended in these guidelines, so speak to your doctor about what your needs are.
General Screening Guidelines
Irrespective of your age, your doctor may want to check the following at your visit:
Weight/Height measurements
Measurements like body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, body fat percentage and waist –to-hip ratio can be useful. If you are overweight or obese, your risk of many diseases is increased. Men tend to carry weight on their belly, particularly increasing their risk of heart attack, diabetes and stroke.  Your doctor can help by analyzing how overweight you are and assisting you in a weight-loss programme.
Blood pressure
Your blood pressure is measured using a blood pressure machine. Ideal pressure is 120/80mmHg. High blood pressure is a risk for many diseases. It normally causes no symptoms, but silently damages your heart and blood vessels, leading to conditions like stroke and heart attack.
Blood sugar (glucose) test

A blood test is done to measure your blood glucose. High blood sugar indicates diabetes, an illness that may lead to serious medical problems. Diabetes can only be diagnosed from blood sugar levels.
Urine test
A sample of urine is collected in a bottle and tested on site. Kidney disease and diabetes can be detected by this test
Ages 15 to 35
Starting from age 15 to 35 and continuing throughout their lives, men should have screening for the following conditions;
Testicular cancer
Testicular examination –The testicles should be self-examined on a monthly basis starting at the age of 15.Become familiar with what is normal for you and report abnormalities to your doctor. Ideally, your doctor should do a testicular examination on a yearly basis.
Skin cancer
Skin cancers are the most common cancers affecting young people. If you have a fair skin or have been exposed to the sun a lot, you should check your skin regularly for pigmented spots or discoloured areas
Age 36 to 50
From the age of 36 to 50 and continuing through their lives men should have screening for the following;
Cholesterol
Blood test for cholesterol levels
Cholesterol is a type of bad fat in the blood that deposits itself on blood vessel walls, making them hard and narrow. High cholesterol can increase your risk of heart and stroke.
Age 50 and over
Recommended screening tests from the age of 50 and continuing through out their lives;
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)
Stress ECG (Electrocardiogram)
The electrical activity in the heart is monitored while exercising on a treadmill or stationary bicycle. This test will detect CHD (the cause of heart attacks and angina) even before symptoms develop. A stress ECG is recommended in those with risk factors for CHD (diabetes, smoking, cholesterol, family history).
Prostate cancer
Prostate specific antigen (PSA)
A blood test used to screen for prostate enlargement and cancer, should be done on a yearly basis from the age of 50.
During a Digital Rectal Examination the doctor inserts a glove lubricated finger into the rectum to feel the size and the shape of the prostate gland. It may be unpleasant, but is necessary, as a blood test alone is not always sufficient.
Colon cancer
Colonoscopy
A camera on a flexible tube is inserted into the colon via the anus. Cancer, if present, is directly seen. Colonoscopy is recommended once every ten years in those over the age of 50. Those with a family history of colon cancer or known to have medical conditions (ulcerative colitis) predisposing them to colon cancer may need screening sooner.

And number one reason for the drinking Forever Freedom is……

1.       A WONDERFUL DRINK FOR GOOD HEALTH

Forever Freedom contains necessary ingredients, including 19 to 20 amino acids needed by the human body and seven of the eight essential ones that just cannot be made.

The body is able to get enough of these nutrients to allow complex enzymes systems to work really well. This means the body can function at 100%.

3.       A USEFUL SOURCE OF MINERALS

Some of the minerals found in Forever Freedom include calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, chromium, magnesium, manganese, copper and zinc. This is because the plant tends to grow in areas where the soil is rich in these minerals and its roots are able to absorb and deliver them to us in a very available form.

4.       EFFECT ON THE GUT

Aloe Vera has a wonderfully beneficial action on the bowel function and is a natural ‘balancer’ in many areas, and nowhere more so than inside the gut where it tends to regulate the various bacteria and yeasts that inhabit it.

5.       EFFECT ON THE SKIN

When they are first produced deep in the epidermis, skin cells are rather large and very much alive, but by the time they reach the surface after 21-28 days, they are a shadow of their former selves and are transformed into thin flakes of keratin which eventually fall off. Aloe Vera Gel provides essential nutrition to feed the basal cells. Therefore the skin remains healthy and is able to perform its vital functions more efficiently, as well as looking much better!

6.       EFFECTS ON THE JOINTS AND MUSCLES

This breakthrough formula combines the most complete team of nutrients, essential for the maintenance of healthy joint function and mobility. Glucosamine Sulphate, Chondroitin Sulphate, MSM and Vitamin C combined with the rich nutrients of our stabilised Aloe Vera Gel.

7.       IDEAL FOR SPORT PEOPLE

Glucosamine and Chondroitin help protect your joints by working together to build cartilage and maintain its health. The addition of MSM helps the body to maintain healthy connective tissues and joint function.  Plus vitamin C, critical for collagen production and the ongoing maintenance of healthy cartilage.

8.       BALANCES THE IMMUNE SYSTEMS

Among the substances identified in aloe vera is a long chain sugar (polysaccharide) that is known to have an effect on the cytokine system – the chemical messengers of the immune system. Therefore it can act in a way that balances the system and so it can be considered and can be called an immunomodulator.

9.       ASSIST IN HEALTHY DIGESTION

A healthy digestive tract ensures that nutrients from the food we eat are absorbed into bloodstream. There is clear, clinical evidence that by drinking Aloe Vera Gel more efficiently, especially protein. It is suspected that many other substances are much better absorbed under its influence.

Tendonitis

A tendon is the end part of a muscle that attaches the muscle to the bone, tendons are more dense and stiff than the muscle itself – this makes them susceptible to a low level of tearing at a microscopic level.  This tearing produces the inflammation and irritation known as tendonitis.  Tendonitis is usually seen after excessive repetitive movement - for example, a soccer player may over - use the muscles of the Achilles.

The most common tendon areas that become inflamed are:
Elbow
Biceps
Shoulder
Leg
Knee
Ankle
Hip
Achilles

Symptoms
Symptoms can vary from an achy pain and stiffness to the local area of the tendon, to a burning that surrounds the whole joint.  The pain is usually worse during and after activity, and the tendon and joint area can become stiffer the following day.

Natural Remedies  For Tendonitis

Forever Freedom with MSM - natural pain killer, heal tissues, enhances flexibility and stops inflammation;
A-Beta-CarE - repairs damaged tissues;

Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a waxy substance necessary for cell metabolism which also gives strength and resistance to the exterior cell membrane. Cholesterol also has a negative aspect. When too much of it is found floating in the blood stream, it can deposit itself on the walls of the arteries and begin a process of obstruction that leads to arteriosclerosis.

Symptoms

The process is complicated, nevertheless, the situation is such that the cells connected to the blood vessel walls fill with cholesterol and form platelets (made of fat, cells and cell waste). These end up producing fat filled veins (Atherosclerosis) that slowly obstruct the flow of oxygenated blood causing a heart attack or apoplexy. The symptoms of this obstruction will be evidenced according to the area obstructed.

Example - If the obstruction  in the arteries that supply blood to the head (carotid), the symptoms are:

·         Facial paralysis, and/or blindness in only one eye.

·         Paralysis in one side of the body, arm, leg, etc

·         Difficulty in speaking

·         Difficulty in remembering

·         Mental confusion

·         Possible headache

·         Embolism

·         Stroke

If obstruction is in the coronary arteries (or in the aorta to which they connect) that supply oxygenated blood to the heart muscles, that can result in cardiac arrest (angina and heart attack).
Apart from  a healthy diet the folowing products could be used a supplementary to aid in combating cholesterol and thus prevent heart failure, angina, arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis, etc.
